Andy was born in Iran into a family of artists and art lovers. He started sketching, painting, and sculpting from a very young age, therefore pursuing art as a profession was a natural path for him. Additionally, he was attracted to design and engineering, and gravitated towards the more technical fields of art and design such as photography, product design, and architecture. With the mentorship and the support of his brother and uncle, who were in the publishing business, he started a professional career as a graphic designer well before finishing high school.
In the early 80s, he moved to Paris, France, and started working professionally for advertising agencies like“Publicis” and design studios like “Creaset” where he was hired as a production artist and a Jr. designer to work on different accounts and projects including packaging and catalogs for luxury brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Cartier, etc.
In the late 80s, he moved to Los Angeles and started working for an international publishing company. Six years later, he left that company to work for ad agencies and design studios either as a freelancer or on staff. Most of the design studios were specialized in entertainment design due to the nature of LA’s industry. After a few years, he transitioned into working for the in-house creative departments at Mattel and Disney.
In the late 90s, while the industry was still in its infancy, he joined the dot-com sector as the head of the UI/UX for a large dot-com company in San Francisco. After the dot-com bust, he started his own design business (Aryapour Design) in Santa Monica, California, and within a couple of years, Aryapour Design grew to become a mid-sized, full-service design studio. In 2008, because of manufacturing issues in China and other external factors, Andy went back to work on freelancing projects until 2016. Since then, he has held both staff and freelancing positions as a designer, a creative director, and a consultant.
In his last staff position at Tabletops Unlimited, he was the creative director and the head of all the design units including packaging, product, web, marketing, and trade show design. He led a thirty-member team of creatives, developers, and production artists working on over fifteen brands and with around 300 projects per month.
While Andy has studied computer science, advertising, and graphic design, for the most part he is an autodidact and he believes that his curiosity and ability to self-teach is one of his greatest assets. He has been playing classical guitar since the age of 14, he is an avid table tennis player, and he is a private pilot. He was among the first kids to play with Legos while he lived in Copenhagen. Other events that influenced his development and triggered his imagination were the first Apollo moon landing and the release of the first Star Wars movie.
